RESOURCES:Depo-Provera and Implanon (Injectables)

Implanon is a hormonal implant injected into the upper arm. It contains progestogen, a synthetic form of naturally occurring progesterone.

Implanon lasts for 3 years - and so is a choice which someone undertaking a three year project or university course, for example, might make.

Depo-Provera is an injectable contraceptive which lasts for 3 months, injected into the gluteus maximus muscle in the bottom every three months. It contains the progestogen called medroxyprogesterone acetate (a synthetic form of progesterone, the naturally occuring hormone in women´s ovaries during the last two weeks of the menstrual cycle)
